Wood was much more than just a raw material for our ancestors. It was a carrier of life, a foundation for life, and a spiritual symbol. They carved wood to decorate religious objects and created household tools that were engraved with respect, symbolism, and the rhythm of life. Wood is warm, alive, and responsive. That is why it continues to speak to us today - if only we know how to listen.
My name is Andis. I am a woodworker from Jelgava. I have been working with wood for many years - initially as a craftsman, later as an artist. The surface of wood has always seemed to me like a canvas on which to record feelings, events, seasons, silence.
Over time, I discovered how wonderfully wood "understands" paint. Acrylic paints gave me the opportunity to express myself in even more nuanced ways - through floating, flowing, color transitions, the movement of air and water. I stopped using the brush as my only tool. Instead, I let nature and flow enter my works.
Then epoxy resin entered my life - and the possibilities for creation expanded even further. It allows me to solidify a moment. Encapsulate a feeling. Give my colors depth, clarity and longevity.
Every piece I create is unique. It's not just decor. It's energy, a story, a mood. I draw inspiration from nature - from autumn fog, spring light, summer waves or winter peace. I watch the change of colors, the shadows of clouds, the patterns of branches.
When I work with people in masterclasses, I see them discovering the same thing within themselves: the creativity that we often silence in our everyday lives. It's not just about learning a technique - it's about connecting with your intuition, peace, and freedom.
